A Softer Jawline? Start Looking at Your Stomach Meridian

Grove Flow

For many Americans, sagging is the top facial concern. TCM says the Spleen governs the flesh, and the Stomach meridian runs right along the jaw and cheeks.

A jawline that blurs in photos, a profile that looks a little “droopy”: for many people, it’s the change they notice most after 30.

The Stomach Meridian Runs Across Your Face

The Stomach meridian (Foot Yangming) starts just below the eye, travels across the cheek and the angle of the jaw, then continues down the neck. In TCM, when the Spleen and Stomach are strong, qi and blood can help hold the face “up.”

A 4-Minute Jawline Follow-Along

Tilt your chin up and, alternating hands, sweep the backs of your hands from your jaw toward the back of your ears, 36 times. Glide your thumbs along the jawline from your chin to the base of your ear, 36 times. Press Da Ying (ST5), at the front edge of the jaw muscle, 36 times. Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and tuck your chin, 36 times.

When using a gua sha tool, apply oil first and use only enough pressure to make the skin turn slightly pink. Don’t use it on broken or inflamed skin.
